With endorsements and contributions, Kirkland City Council candidate Amy Walen builds strong momentum as filing deadline nears

Amy-WalenOne week prior to the filing deadline for candidates to formally declare their intention to run for Kirkland City Council, Amy Walen has raised $25,000 for her re-election campaign. Besides the financial contributions, more than 120 Kirkland residents and current and former elected officials have publicly endorsed Walen’s re-election campaign. Walen is seeking a second four-year term on the council. “Fundraising certainly isn’t my favorite thing to have to do,” said Walen, “but it goes with the territory when running for election.  Advertising, campaign signs, mailings – all cost money. I do work with local vendors whenever possible so that benefits the city. And I’m so thankful for all the support. It’s humbling and inspiring. I am committed to the City of Kirkland and there is a lot more work to do and things to accomplish.” Organizations endorsing Walen include Kirkland Professional Firefighters and Seattle King County Realtors. Six former Kirkland mayors (Bill Woods, Larry Springer, Dave Russell, Bob Neir, Deb Eddy, and Mary-Alyce Burleigh) and current Mayor Joan McBride are among those supporting Walen along with King County Councilmember Jane Hague. Dozens of local businesspeople and residents have also lent their name to the campaign. Learn more about Walen and see the complete list of endorsements at www.amywalen.com.
