80 volunteers hang garland and string lights in downtown Kirkland on Saturday morning
It's Saturday morning at 8:00 A.M. Jeff Renner and Steve Pool can't make up their minds on whether it's 28 degrees or 29 degrees outside. The children are nestled all snug in their beds, while volunteers gathered at Merrill Gardens to decorate the central business district with garland and twinkle lights.
Volunteering to decorate downtown Kirkland for the holidays is an annual calling many.
With smiles on their faces, warm food in their bellies and cedar garland in their arms, volunteers went to work in their assigned positions bringing holiday cheer to the streets of downtown Kirkland.
George's provided Santa's helpers with breakfast sandwiches and Merrill Gardens provided coffee, hot apple cider and a warm place to meet. Longtime downtown supporters including Doug Davis, Penny Sweet and Patty Tucker helped organize and coordinate the volunteer effort and their efforts, as always, is greatly appreciated.
Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped out!
All of this hard work is in preparation for the annual downtown Holiday Tree Lighting that takes place Saturday, November 26 from 4 - 8 P.M. (tree lighting at 6 P.M.).
Here is a video of the Tree Lighting Event from 2009: Thank you to Michelle Sailor for sharing her photos.
