The Box serves tasty Asian fusion cuisine on wheels

[scrollGallery id=180] About once a month, my buddy Paul and I go to lunch at various mobile food trucks around Seattle and on the Eastside. We never know where we will end up because the food trucks are constantly moving about, serving lunch to those in the know who follow their movements on Twitter and Facebook. Recently we found The Box, a Kirkland-based lunch truck serving Asian fusion cuisine in the shadow of Evergreen Hospital, and we were thrilled with the find.

First off, for those who have never dined at a restaurant on wheels, relax. The number and variety of high quality food trucks in our area has earned national acclaim. Some of the more famous lunch trucks around are Marination, Maximus / Minimus and Skillet.

What will you find  when you lunch at The Box? A shiny new truck (it is really a custom kitchen on wheels) serving take out lunch to office workers, people on the go and those of us willing to hunt down the mobile eateries for a tasty meal. The menu has a variety of Asian fusion items such as:

  • Pork Belly Hum Boa ($2.50)
  • Duck Confit Hum Boa ($3)
  • Pomme Frites ($3)
  • Cold Soba Noodle Salad ($7)
  • Chop Chop Salad ($7)
  • Chicken Karaage Plate ($8)

Currently, The Box is serving lunch to hungry Kirklanders Tuesdays thru Saturdays (check Facebook for times and locations). This past week, The Box was found around Kirkland at places like Juanita Beach Park from 11:30-3pm Saturday, in front of NW Multiple Listing Services on Tuesday and in front of Madison House Retirement on Wednesday.

Mobile lunch trucks are a great option for folks hungry to try new cuisines. If a new truck comes to town, Paul is usually the first to know and it is not long before we track 'em down. My hope is that Kirkland will embrace these entrepreneurs on wheels and we can gain a critical mass of them like is the case in Portland.

Thank you to chef/owner Reis Llaneza for bringing his cuisine to Kirkland. We look forward to many more visits. See you there!
