Slurry Seal Coming to several streets in Kirkland

The City of Kirkland, along with its contractor, Blackline Inc., will be resurfacing several streets in Kirkland with slurry seal.  Slurry seal is a thick cold liquid mixture of asphalt and fine rock (pre-mixed) applied to the existing asphalt surface.

The following information is provided by the City of Kirkland:

When:  Construction is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, August 30th and estimated to be complete within one week.  Typical hours of operation are Monday-Friday 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.    Many factors (including weather) could influence the actual days the work is being done.  Rain, or even the threat of rain, will postpone the slurry seal application.  For up to date schedule information and/or rescheduling information please call the hotline number (425-587-3838) or check the Project Web Page

Where:  See map and schedule.

What to Expect:

Road closure:  The Slurry Seal process requires road closures for one day (8:00 am to 4:00 pm). Notices will be distributed to all adjacent residents and businesses within 24 hours prior to road closure.

No one will be allowed to drive in or out of their driveway or on the street after 8:00 am, at which time the road will be closed to all traffic.  The road will remain closed until the slurry seal has been placed and had time to dry thoroughly (which can take anywhere from four to six hours).  All roads are scheduled to open by 4:00 pm the same day.  Once the slurry seal application has cured (dried), the barricades and signs blocking the road will be removed and the road will be opened.   Warning:  Driving on the closed road will cause permanent damage to the new street surface.

No on-street parking or driveway access: The contractor will deliver door hangers to homes and businesses and install “No Parking” signs at least within 24 hours of the work being done on each street. Once the street is closed, no one will be able to drive into or pull out of their driveway. Residents and businesses are asked to park their car outside the work-zone on a nearby street ahead of time.

Emergency access:  Emergency vehicle access will be maintained throughout the work.
