Joel Salatin of “Food Inc.” and “Omnivore's Dilemma” coming to Pacific Northwest July 23rd For Lecture and Health Fair appearance
Kirkland Views has learned that the Kirkland Health Fair (www.kirklandhealthfair.org) will be hosting famous farmer and local food advocate Joel Salatin of Polyface Farms, from Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, on July 23rd in Kirkland, WA. A public lecture at the Kirkland Performance Center in downtown Kirkland will follow an afternoon appearance and mingling with the public at the free day events of the Kirkland Health Fair, an annual public educational event.
Garnering international notoriety for his work both as a lifelong, commercially successful farmer and as a columnist and writer, Joel's real-world example and passionate support of local food production are an inspiration to believers that human health is best supported by quality food ethically produced by it's own community.
From the Kirkland Health Fair website:
“Meet Joel Salatin, one of the most productive farmers on the planet. A third generation farmer in Virginia’s Shenandoah valley, his agricultural philosophy is simple: let nature do the work.
You might recognize him from the Oscar nominated “Food, Inc.” In addition, Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma profiles Joel extensively. People are catching on.
Polyface produces 5 to 10 times more per acre than its neighbors, serving more than 3,000 families, 10 retail outlets, and 50 restaurants. But Joel won't Fed-Ex you a steak. If you want one, you've got to go meet him yourself.”
