[imagebrowser id=110] Under crystal blue skies and with temperatures covering around freezing, Plungers from across the Eastside (and as far away as Great Britain and Norway!) descended upon Kirkland's Marina Park to partake in one of the greatest sporting events ever known: the 2011 Polar Bear Plunge into Lake Washington. As the one o'clock hour approached, a countdown rang out... 10, 9, 8... then the sound of screams and laughter and splashing rang for about one minute - the time it takes to do the round trip into and out of the lake.
Thank you to Larry Springer and Penny Sweet for providing the plungers with hot cocoa and to all of the spectators, media and brave plungers for joining us in ringing in the new year. Mark your calendar for next year's plunge as plans are already underway to make it even bigger and better.
Happy New Year from your friends at Kirkland Views.
