In the heart of downtown Kirkland rises the newest luxury apartment community, The 101.
Those wanting the best views in the heart Kirkland need look no further than the newly opened apartments in the center of downtown, The 101. Located a block from Lake Washington, with commanding views west toward Seattle and the Olympic Mountains, The 101 would seems hard to beat. Just prior to occupancy, Andy Loos and Dave Tomson of SRM Development gave me a tour of the building, showing me the various floor plans and amenities and of course, the incredible views.
The 101 is a 66-unit luxury apartment featuring studio, 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom units, each with spacious open floor plans, many with views and expansive decks. The most eye-catching feature of The 101 is the top deck representing much of the building's fifth floor. This shared space includes ideal areas for entertaining, barbecuing or just taking in the view under heat lamps.
The 101 has much to offer, not the least of which is its excellent location. Step outside and you are in the heart of dozens of restaurants, coffee shops, retailers, lakefront parks, library and a transit center.
The redevelopment of the Bank of America lot where The 101 now sits was certainly not without controversy. In fact, during the summer of 2008 local residents under the banner, Citizens for a Vibrant Kirkland (CIVIK), appealed several aspects of the project. The quasi-judicial appeal went before a part-time city council which was ill-equipped to micromanage the complexities of land use and zoning issues. Ultimately, the appeals process lead to an improved design of the project and a settlement agreeable to all.
Parking, which is a perennial issue in town, is not a concern at The 101. Confirmation from the Planning Department confirms that The 101 complies with all city parking and use regulations. Ample underground parking is available for both the apartment and retail customers.
The street level of The 101 is soon to host several retail spaces including a cafe and a Bank of America branch which will relocate from its temporary space at Merrill Gardens one block away.
