Ten-year-old pianist from Redmond wins grand prize in Young Artists competition


Redmond resident Alexander Lu , a 4th grader at Bellevue Children’s Academy, won top honors in the KING FM Ten Grands Young Artist Awards competition.  Among his prizes, the pianist will perform center stage alongside the featured artists at the Ten Grands concert on May 21 at Benaroya Hall.

The 10-year old Young Artist grand prize winner also receives a $1,000 scholarship from 98.1 Classical KING FM. For his winning entry he played “The Cat and the Mouse” by American composer Aaron Copland.

Nine other talented students made the “Top 10” cut and have received invitations to perform at the Ten Grands event.  Four of them play the piano, with others playing cello, clarinet, harp, marimba and violin.
