In honor of 50 years since the installation of the Disneyland exhibition “It’s a Small World” and the 50th anniversary of the death of Walt Disney, who brought such joy and imagination to children and adults all over the world has inspired the theme of the Kirkland 4th of July 2016.
It’s a Small World was first conceived for the 1964 New York World’s Fair as part of an exhibit called Children of the World as a salute to UNICEF and the World’s children. It re-opened as an attraction at Disneyland in 1966. The theme song was crafted to be easily translated and performed in all languages. That song became a movement that spoke to the spirit of international unity and was embraced around the world as a symbol of and hope for world peace.
We invite and encourage everyone in Kirkland to join us on the 4th of July in a celebration of this theme in the annual Lee Johnson Auto Family 4th of July Parade and throughout the day at Marina park in downtown Kirkland, and a fabulous fireworks display on Lake Washington! We invite broad cultural participation from all of the communities within our community. What better day to do so than on the birthday of our independence?
We need every person to help in funding the 4th of July every year. The City of Kirkland designates this event as a community event and partners with Waste Management, who is a significant sponsor. The Lee Johnson Auto Family is consistently a huge supporter. We need to raise the balance of $25,000 to $30,000. Please support us as a business or corporate sponsor or by sending us a personal donation of $100 or any amount to Celebrate Kirkland/KDA 440 Central Way Kirkland, WA98033. For more information on sponsorship, please contact Barbie Collins Young, Director of the KDA at firstname.lastname@example.org. You can go to our website www.celebrateKirkland.org and check out the contribute page. Together we can make this the best 4th of July ever.
We are still looking for a few folks interested in serving on the oversight committee. Anyone interested should contact us at email@example.com
For more information on the parade or any of the day’s festivities and fireworks please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Looking forward to our 17th annual 4th of July Celebration!
