The Kirkland Firefighters Benevolent Association (KFFBA) is partnering with the City of Kirkland to purchase 200 smoke detectors for elderly or otherwise vulnerable Kirkland residents who do not currently have smoke detectors. The campaign dovetails with this weekend’s “Change Your Clocks, Change Your Smoke Detector Batteries” campaign. To schedule an installation of this essential fire safety tool, call (425) 587-3625.
The Kirkland Firefighters Benevolent Association (KFFBA) is dedicated to preserving the brotherhood and sense of community that is embedded in the fire service. KFFBA assists people in the Kirkland community and our Police and Fire family in times of need or grief. KFFBA offers financial assistance and organizes needed services during times of crisis or difficulty and enables firefighters to have a positive impact beyond the scope of their normal duties.
Public education is a critical responsibility of City Government and the Fire service. Part of KFFBA’s mission is to reach people before they have an actual crisis. Smoke detectors dramatically increase survivability in the event of a fire, particularly for the elderly. Fires in modern homes burn seven times faster than they did in the past, therefore, smoke detectors may be the only warning to get out of the house in the event of a fire.
