This Saturday, beginning at 9:00 a.m., the Surfrider Foundation will be mobilizing volunteers for an intense cleaning of Juanita Beach Park as part of a national initiative designed to keep beaches, rivers and lakes across America, "barefoot friendly."
This is the second year in a row a beach in the greater Seattle area has been targeted as part of the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project - a 12-beach, nationwide coastal cleanup.
The Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project, now in its ninth year, is a partnership between Barefoot Wine and the Surfrider Foundation. Since its inception, the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project has cleaned more than 135 beaches, and removed more than 14 tons of trash. Their cleanup three weeks ago at Huntington Beach attracted more than 250+ volunteers from as far north as Vancouver, including actress Nikki Reed, removing more than 200 pounds of garbage.
Perhaps those volunteers might like to lend a hand at Kirkland Summerfest on Saturday after they clean up Juanita Beach? ;-)
