Kirkland Artists Open their Doors on May 9-10th Annual Mother's Day Event features 43 Northwest artists

The 12th annual Kirkland Artist Studio Tour (KAST), one of the largest studio art tours in Western Washington, will be held Mother's Day weekend (May 9 and 10) from 10am-6pm.
KAST 2015 will showcase 43 artists at 21 home studios, local businesses and galleries. Almost half the artists are new to participating in this event, and most are residents in King and Snohomish counties.
"Studio tour retail is retail of a different color. It's  more like Slow Retail or Mindful Retail. You're invited into an artist's home or their sacred art studio where you're given space to breathe and enjoy the art. You create a one on one relationship with the artist who is happy to talk art with you...about their art and process, about your aunt's art or maybe show you how they do their art with a quick demonstration," explains Joanne Shellan, artist and co-founder of the Kirkland Artist Studio Tour. "It's a pretty wonderful experience."

The artists, selected by the Kirkland Arts Center, work in a variety of media, including pottery, painting, jewelry, sculpture, photography, glass, printmaking and mixed media. During the weekend, artists will be on site working in the studios, offering visitors a chance to watch demonstrations, ask questions, purchase art directly from the artists or just soak up the inspiration.
The best places to start the self-guided tour are at the Kirkland Arts Center (620 Market Street) or the KAC Store (336 Parkplace Center), where free maps are available. Many studios are within walking distance of each other so you can stroll from one location to the next or hop on a bike. Add in brunch or lunch at a Kirkland restaurant, and you've just created a fun, memorable Mother's Day activity.
