Medical Examiner confirms death of pedestrian struck by driver in Kirkland neighborhood
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that the pedestrian who was struck in the crosswalk on 119th Place NE at NE 144th Street has died. The name of the deceased can be obtained from the Medical Examiner’s Office. The car-pedestrian collision occurred on September 15, 2014 at about 3:30 p.m. The Kirkland Police Major Accident Investigation Team, with assistance from the Public Works Department, continues its investigation. On September 15th at about 3:30 PM Kirkland Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a reported car vs. pedestrian collision on 119th Pl. NE at NE 144 Street.
Preliminary investigation at the scene revealed a male in his 40’s was utilizing the crosswalk, crossing 119th Pl. NE from the West to the East when he was struck by a Toyota Prius driven by a woman in her 50’s who was the sole occupant of the vehicle. The driver reported she was making a left turn onto 119th Pl NE from NE 144th Street and did not see the man in the crosswalk. The vehicle impacted the pedestrian who was treated at the scene by Kirkland Fire Department personnel for severe head trauma and was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for what appeared to be life threatening injuries.
The Kirkland Police Major Accident Investigation Team was called in to process the accident scene and the investigation continues. The female driver has been cooperative in the investigation. Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor.
