Restaurant reviews are not our forte. Noting new businesses in town is and one of the newest is Ariana Afghan Cuisine.
Ariana opened this month in downtown Kirkland at 21 Central Way. It's always best to give a restaurant time to settle in before testing it. So yesterday, Kate and I ventured into Ariana Afghan Cuisine for their lunchtime buffet served seven days a week. I generally tend to avoid buffets, as I prefer order off a menu, however in this case it was a good option. Afghan cuisine is not something I am accustomed to. Having many options before me at the buffet table was a great way to see the variety of dishes offered and it was nice that a server walked us through the line giving explanations of each dish. Kebabs, rices, stews, curries, nan, soups. Many dishes to choose from, including vegetarian and gluten-free.
If you go, be sure to try the two chutneys at the end of the bar. The red one is spicy and the green one, my favorite, is a mouthful of flavor. I would not mind having some of them in my refrigerator at home. They will add a burst of flavor to any dish.
This family run business is clean and welcoming. The interior has touches of Afghan artwork hanging from the wood panels left in place from the days old as the 21 Central steakhouse. The staff was efficient and very friendly.
We wish Ariana all the best in their new venture in Kirkland.
