Section 8 Meeting follow-up

The following message is from the City of Kirkland:

On January 23, 2013, City of Kirkland staff held a public meeting to share information about and gather input on a proposed ordinance that would make it illegal to refuse to rent a residential unit based solely on the renter’s use of a Section 8 voucher to cover a portion of the rent.  The meeting was attended by 25 individuals.  The notes from the meeting, along with the a copy of the proposed ordinance and a question and answer document about the program administration, are available at the Section 8 Nondiscrimination page on the Planning Departments portion of the City of Kirkland website.

The City is still considering putting this item on the February 19, 2013 City Council agenda, at which time interested parties will have an opportunity to speak to the Council.  However, we want to make sure that all who wish to share comments or ideas with staff have an opportunity to do so prior to the Council’s consideration of the item.

Please contact Dawn Nelson, Planning Supervisor, 425-587-3230 if you were unable to attend the meeting on January 23rd and would like an opportunity to meet with staff and share your comments or ideas.
