The Kirkland Downtown Association (KDA) is hosting a community meeting to discuss the temporary relocation of the Kirkland Wednesday Market. The temporary relocation is necessary due to the redevelopment of the Kirkland Transit Center on 3rd Street between Kirkland Avenue and Central Way and the upgrade to the Kirkland Pump Station at the corner of 3rd Street and Park Lane.
Construction for the Transit Center is expected to begin in the fall of 2009 and be complete in December 2010. The Pump Station Upgrade construction will begin as the Transit Center construction wraps up and is expected to be complete in late 2012.
Due to its current location on Park Lane, it is necessary that the Market relocate to a temporary site during the construction of these major projects.
The KDA is working cooperatively with the City of Kirkland to find an alternate location for the Market. Several sites were considered including:

The KDA seeks your comments on its preferred sites and encourages you to attend the community meeting.
If you are unable to attend the meeting, please forward your comments to Sudie Elkayssi, Kirkland Parks & Community Services Department at selkayssi@ci.kirkland.wa.us or 425-587-3347 by 5 p.m. on December 19, 2008. Your comments will be shared with the Kirkland City Council as part of the decision making process on the preferred relocation site.

Rob, as past president of the Kirkland Wednesday Market I would like to say that the board also considered the Lake and Central Lot for the Market. It also works for many reasons, better visibility, closer to the Transit Center and parking garage, it would cause street closures. I noticed that you did not include it on your list. Sacred cow that it is in the city annals. Who can forget what spawned CIVIK? That being said the Marina Lot is also acceptable. I just wanted to note that Lake and Central was on the original list discussed. Kellie Jordan
