Tall Ships "Battle" off Shore of Kirkland, Public Tours Begin Friday

TallShips The sound of cannon fire rang through Heritage Park Tuesday afternoon as the return of the majestic tall ships conducted a mock battle on Lake Washington.

Join the Woodmark Hotel in welcoming historic Tall Ships, the Lady Washington and the Hawaiian Chieftain, on Lake Washington this Labor Day weekend. The Tall Ships will be available for complimentary public viewings and educational tours at the Carillon Point marina from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, August 30 through Sunday, September 1. In addition, on the following dates, the Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain will set sail for adventure sails, “mock battles” and Lake Washington tours:

Friday, August 30

  • 2 to 4 p.m. – family-friendly adventure sail
  • 5 to 7 p.m. – adults-only adventure sail

Saturday, August 31

  • 2 to 4 p.m. – family-friendly “mock battle” sail
  • 6 to 8 p.m. – adults-only “mock battle” sail

Sunday, September 1

  • 2 to 4 p.m. – family-friendly “mock battle” sail
  • 5 to 7 p.m. – adults-only “mock battle” sail

 

Sailings are approximately two hours long with both ships departing from the Carillon Point guest dock at the Woodmark. The early sailing is family friendly and the evening sailing is cocktail cruises for adults age 21 and over. Boxed snacks will be included for all sailings and beer and wine will be available for purchase during the cocktail cruises.

 

In addition, guests and the community are invited to stop by Beach Café to taste the new “Hop the Plank” IPA, locally brewed by Baron Brewing and featuring flavors of sweet malts, toffee and caramel. Those who stop by from Saturday, August 18 through Tuesday, September 3 dressed as a pirate will receive two-for-one appetizers at Beach Café.
