Eastside Republican Club Announces Winners Of 2013 Scholarship Essay Program

ercbanner The Eastside Republican Club today announced the winners of its 2013 Scholarship Essay Program. They are:

 

$1000 WinnerChelsea Bateman, Redmond, a student at Woodinville High School, planning to attend Western Washington University;

 

$750 WinnerSamuel Chong, Mercer Island, a student at Mercer Island High School, planning to attend Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL);

 

$500 WinnerShannon Harris, Snohomish, a student at the University of Washington.

 

The scholarships will be presented on Tuesday, May 7, at the Club's monthly meeting at the VFW Post 2995 conference hall in Redmond.

 

Applicants for the ERC scholarship essay program were required to submit an essay of up to 500 words on the topic " What is the best way to stop gun violence without infringing on the rights protected by the Second Amendment?". They were required to live in King County or attend a public, private, or home school in King County, and be high school seniors graduating in 2013 or freshmen or sophomores in an accredited college or university. Winners were selected by a committee of judges made up of members of the board of directors of Eastside Republican Club.
