On Saturday, the Seattle Yacht Club presented the 93rd Opening Day celebrations, one of the largest in the world bringing together yachtsmen and yacht clubs from many ports to celebrate the beginning of the boating season here in the Northwest. This year's theme, Hawaiian Magic, was whimsically on display in the parade of spectacularly decorated boats with elaborate costumes, floating volcanoes, hula dancers, and Polynesian music and imagery.
Blue skies and temperatures in the mid 70's were on hand for the always exciting crew races through the Montlake Cut. This year, teams from Dartmouth, Cornell and Washington competed for the 2013 Windermere Cup. The University of Washington men and women bested their Ivy League competitors for the Windereme Cup for the seventh straight year.
The SYC website contains information on the many water-related events which take place in this vibrant community. The Aloha Times is the club's newsletter describing the events of Opening Day weekend which take place from Wednesday, May 1st through Sunday, May 5th.
