Know an outstanding educator or educational program making a difference in your community? Share their successes with the rest of Washington state by sending in a nomination for KCTS 9's 22nd Annual Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Education.
Any person contributing time or services in Washington state schools from pre-K through grade 12 can be nominated. Teachers, administrators, school staff and volunteers, specific education or community programs, and local businesses are all eligible for nomination. Students, parents, teachers and community members can all submit nominations. “Each and every day, she reminds us students about having passion for the arts. She is the epitome of what every teacher should be,” said student Olivia Maassen of theatre instructor Leslie Van Leishout, a 2012 Golden Apple winner.
Nominations can be made online at KCTS9.org/goldenapple or you can request a nomination form by calling 800.766.0900. Nomination forms must be postmarked by May 6, 2013. A panel of education leaders from the community and past winners will then select this year's Golden Apple honorees.
Golden Apple Award winners will be honored at ceremonies to be held in Seattle in early 2014. Winners will be profiled by KCTS 9 and receive the Golden Apple trophy and a cash prize. Major Golden Apple sponsor PEMCO Insurance will also award each recipient a $1,500 grant to support their classroom, school or educational program.
The Golden Apple Awards ceremony will air in primetime on public television stations statewide in February 2014.
