11th Annual Polar Bear Plunge brings hundreds to Kirkland waterfront for dip into Lake Washington

Polar-Bear-Plunge-2013-by-Vovina The 2013 11th Annual Polar Bear Plunge launched the new year with many laughs, goosebumps, pink skin and lots of smiles. The relatively warm sunshine made the annual plunge into Lake Washington seem almost balmy. Among the participants were Mayor Joan McBride, Councilmember Bob Sternoff and a cadre of costumed comrades. Rep. Larry Springer and Councilmember Penny Sweet, owners of The Grape Choice, opened early and brought a table to the beach and generously gave hot chocolate to participants.

One participant stated on Facebook, "This was a blast!!!! My girlfriend and I were in pink tutus and went in 3 times! Can't wait till next year! ;)"

Mark your calendar for 1pm next New Year's Day. See you there!
