One of Our Family Traditions is Visiting the Kiwanis Club Christmas Tree Lot

Every family has its holiday traditions and one of our family favorites is visiting the always friendly Kiwanians to find the perfect Christmas Tree. Rain or shine, (well, more likely rain or gale force winds) members of the Kiwanis Club help families like ours find the perfect Christmas Tree. This year the lot is located on the lakeside of Juanita Beach Park, just off Juanita Drive. It is the best place around to buy a Noble Fir Christmas Tree, a Christmas Wreath or some See's Candy, nuts and other yummy stuff.

When you go, be sure to say hello to the volunteers who greet you. They are some of the most generous people around and they help form the foundation of our community.

This year, when we arrived, a smiling Mark Shinstrom came over to help us. With a quick glance to surmise what size tree we were seeking, Mark found us the perfect one on his first attempt. Mark, like his fellow Kiwanians, is a real pro -- unflappable, calm under pressure, and an expert at wielding a chainsaw. Before we knew it, Mark and another volunteer had cut off an inch from the trunk of our tree, tied it to our car with twine, and by the time we had checked out with our hands full of other goodies, our perfect Christmas Tree was securely on top of our vehicle, ready for the no-so-long one-mile drive home.

It makes me feel good to visit the Kiwanis Christmas Tree Lot each year. Mark and his many cohorts are good folks doing wonderful things in our community. The tree lot is their biggest fundraiser and help support the good work Kiwanians do in Kirkland.

If you still need to find that perfect tree, I suggest you add a visit to Juanita Beach Park to your holiday traditions. You'll be glad you did.

Thank you to Mark for being a good sport and posing for pictures.
