City of Kirkland Office of Emergency Management and citizen CERT members will offer the Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) starting January 11, 2012. Training is eight weeks with classes each Wednesday night from 6:00 to 9:00. Registration is limited to 30 trainees.
Participants will receive training in disaster medical operations and triage, light search and rescue, disaster fire suppression, terrorism awareness, and disaster psychology. The course is taught by FEMA certified Kirkland firemen. You will be trained to help your community in the case of a major disaster when first responders are unable to respond.
Cost for Kirkland residents is $35 which includes training manual, hardhat, and backpack with emergency supplies.
