No need to travel overseas or to the borders to fight invaders. We have some right here in Kirkland. Ivy, blackberries, and all sorts of other chlorophyll-spewing vines and weeds are getting in the way of young trees that are looking to spread their roots. Denny Creek Neighborhood Alliance is organizing a work party in the eastern portion of the Juanita Woodlands on Finn Hill this upcoming Saturday, November 5, to clean out those invasives so that we’ll be ready to plant over 2000 new trees in January.
We’ll meet at 9am on 120th Street, which runs east from Juanita Drive (just below the Plaza Garcia Restaurant). Park on the street. If you have hand tools -- loppers, clippers, and shovels -- feel free to bring them, but we will have a supply of tools as well. Be sure to grab some gloves, lace up a pair of sturdy shoes, and put on some layers to keep out the early morning chill. But you’ll warm up soon enough…and we’ll have hot chocolate and coffee for you! There will be plenty to do for kids and adults alike.
