Kirkland Shamrock Run taking shape - Offers fun Eastside alternative for St. Patrick's Day

Kirkland to be awash with the color green this St. Patrick's Day! The first annual Kirkland Shamrock Run to launch Saturday, March 17, 2012

For those seeking an alternative to Seattle for St. Patrick's Day, Kirkland is planning to bring out the Irish in you with a fun, new event: The Kirkland Shamrock Run (KSR), a 5k fun run along the beautiful shores of Lake Washington.

The KSR organizing committee is planning a 5k fun run to be held Saturday, March 17th. The race will start and finish at Marina Park with the course that swings along Lake Washington, passing through several neighborhoods along the way. Whacky costumes will be encouraged!

This event will fun-filled for the whole family. We will be seeking volunteers, sponsors and obviously loads of runners and walkers.

Please visit the Kirkland Shamrock Run Facebook page to find out more details.

The KSR is being organized by Kirkland residents and businesses including Market Neighborhood Association Chair Michelle Sailor, The Wilde Rover, Lake Washington Physical Therapy, Everyday Athlete, Banner Bank, BTO Mmultisports and Kirkland Views. Proceeds from this event will support the Summer Concert Series, 4th of July Parade and Fireworks, flowerpots, and other downtown Kirkland activities.

If the thought of heading to Seattle is too much to contemplate (not to mention the hassle of paying the new toll on the 520 bridge), relax. Kirkland is the place to be for St. Patrick's Day.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 17th and come down to Kirkland and join the fun at the 2012 Shamrock Run! We'll be sure to get your Irish eyes a smilin'.

And that's no blarney.
