Lake Street Mall Renovation Plans Look to Revitalize Building in Downtown Kirkland

The building at 15 Lake Street has seen its share of tenants come and go over the years. Now it seems the old JC Penney building in the heart of downtown is going to get a facelift. The approved plans of what is to be named Lake Street Mall were recently reviewed at City Hall. They show a facade and interior laid out to house a series of tenants on two floors, reminiscent of  the vendor spaces at Pike Place Market in Seattle. The plans include large windowed walls and removal of the original staircase which greets visitors as they enter from Lake Street. A new stair case to the lower floor will replace it.

The plans include a sign reading Lake Street Market, however, red ink scrawled across it reads, "rooftop sign not allowed per code."

According to City staff, construction could begin with these plans at anytime.
