Sirena Gelato Brings Authentic Venetian Gelato to Downtown Kirkland

While studying summer courses in Italy, Brian Ugurlu came up with the idea of opening a gelato shop as parents Fahri and Robin Ugurli tell the story. "We opened up the Sirena Gelato Shop in Bellingham in the historical district of Fairhaven.  Now we are happy to be here in beautiful Kirkland!"

Brian was trained by Leonardo Mazzero, a third generation gelato artisan from Venice, Italy.  Mazzero taught him the fine art of gelato and sorbet preparation using natural ingredients. Mazzero explained that gelato has been consumed in Italy for more than 2000 years, starting with the Romans bringing snow from the mountains in terracotta vessels and mixing it with fruit and sugar. Even residents of Pompeii obtained snow from Mt. Vesuvius for that purpose—until the volcano buried the city.

The Ugurlu family believe looks forward to becoming a part of the Kirkland community. They have donated to local charities for the past decade contributing to St. Joseph Hospital, WWU, Univ. of WA, Rotary Clubs, Hospice, Brain Tumor research, schools, sports teams, cheerleaders, clubs, churches, etc. They enjoy fundraising for local charities and giving back to the community.
