Q: What is going on at the (former) pho restaurant on Lake WA Blvd? It is now painted red. Is it going to be another restaurant? - via Facebook

A: You're right! A new restaurant is in town named Charlie's Flame Broiled Burgers. Charlie's is having a soft opening on Thursday, April 21, 2011.

The company's website declares the restaurant is "Not your ordinary burger joint." In fact, beyond burgers, Charlie's offers wings, fish tacos and salads too. But the main draw is their burgers - 22 burgers to be precise. Selections include the Chicken Burger, Grilled Chicken Club, the Charlie Burger (which includes hot pastrami), Avocado Burger, Manly Burger (2.5 pound patties) and Salmon Burger to name a few.

Charlie's used to be located in Seattle on Judkins & M.L.K. The owner recently sold that location and was searching for a space in Kirkland. The new location (1006 Lake Washington Blvd.) next door to Michael's Fine Dry Cleaning, is the site of the planned Potala Apartments. Rather than a lease, Charlie's has negotiated a month-to-month arrangement with the property owner.
