Storm waters flood streets, down trees in Totem Lake and Juanita

Heavy rainfall over the weekend caused flooding and the downing of trees which resulted in property damage and closed streets in some parts of north Kirkland.

In Juanita, three trees along the Juanita Creek green belt fell onto a local business, the Juanita Pub. Eric Contreras, one of the owners of the establishment said that fortunately no one was injured from the fallen trees and that business was not adversely affected.

Also on Sunday, the City of Kirkland Public Works Department closed several roads because of flooding. Drivers were asked to obey all road closures inlcuding:

·         Northbound I-405 at the Totem Lake Blvd. exit to 120th Avenue (tunnel) ·         Totem Lake Blvd from 120th Avenue NE to NE 124th Street ·         Totem Lake Blvd from NE 128th St to NE 124th Street.

Impacts to residential properties along Billy Creek, a tributary of Juanita Creek in the Finn Hill/North Juanita area were monitored by Public Works. Both creeks experienced high water and flooding.  Impacted roads included 94th Avenue NE at NE 124th Street up to NE 126th Place.
