Eastside TimeBank soon to go "live"

The following letter is from Councilmember Dave Asher. Dave is an enthusiastic supporter of Eastside TimeBank, a service exchange that "builds community and helps you get things done that you can't (don't want to) get done by yourself."

The Eastside Time Bank is About to go "live"!

Join dozens of other volunteers in getting aboard one of the neatest things to hit Kirkland in years.  The Eastside TimeBank is a service exchange that builds community and helps you get things done that you can't (don't want to) get done by yourself.  Can you rake leaves, take someone to the doctor, bake a pie, cook waffles, cut a tree limb?  You have a skill that someone else in the community may need.  You get a Time Dollar for each hour you volunteer, and you can exchange that Time Dollar for an hour's service that you need from other volunteers in the TimeBank (or donate it to a local charity for the needs they have).

You must attend an orientation meeting to join.  If possible, you should fill out an application from the web site (www.eastsidetimebank.org) and bring picture ID with you to the meeting. The ID is for verification and information for a criminal background check.

The next meeting is this Thursday, Dec 9, at the Kirkland Arts Center (great exhibit, now, BTW).  The orientation is preceeded by a pot-luck dinner that enables you to meet folks you may be asking to help you, or vice versa. (Some pretty good food at the last couple of meetings, too!)

Supported by United Way, Kirkland, Bellevue, Redmond, Hopelink, and Eastside Community Aid, the Eastside TimeBank is launching a pilot of the national, TimeBank USA system.  If you join the pilot (limited to Kirkland) you don't have to pay a membership fee.

It is a great way to build community, and it is a super way to meet other people in your community.  Here are the particulars on Thursday's meeting:

Join existing members and others interested in learning more about the Eastside TimeBank at our community potluck, from 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Bring an item to share and your own plate/fork/knife (so we can limit our waste!)

New Member Orientation will be from 7:30 - 8:30 pm

Kirkland Arts Center 620 Market St

For questions, go to the contacts on the web site http://www.eastsidetimebank.org/ Thanks,

- Dave Asher
