[nggallery id=96] UPDATED Citizens of Kirkland marked the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in many ways. In the early morning hours, local volunteers planted hundreds of American flags around downtown Kirkland as a reminder of the tragic events which took place that day. At Peter Kirk Park, an industrious Lake Washington High School senior organized a memorial of 2,977 American flags as a part of the "Never Forget Project." Later that evening, the Northlake Unitarian Universalist Church held an interfaith service featuring a reading from the Qu'ran.

On Park Lane, Haley's Cottage hosted a "French-inspired Flea Market" which was bustling with shoppers strolling along Kirkland's most picturesque street.
