Kirkland AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer Recruitment Announcement

Kirkland’s Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, Stephanie Day, has prepared the following message:

The City of Kirkland is looking for qualified candidates to be an AmeriCorps VISTA member

What will the VISTA Volunteer do?

  • Help prepare our local community to be disaster resilient
  • Work on public disaster preparedness readiness projects, such as Map-Your-Neighborhood, Community Emergency Response Team, and Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES)
  • Work a flexible 40 hour week for a one year assignment

As a VISTA members receive:

  • A modest monthly  living stipend of $977 in King and Snohomish counties and $858 for all other counties
  • Health Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Choice of $5,350 education award or $1,500 cash stipend at the end of the term
  • Relocation allowance if moving over 50 miles to serve

Requirements for VISTA:

  • 18 or older
  • No outside employment
  • Cannot have been an employee of the host organization within 6 month prior to the term
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident
  • Attend a Pre-Service Orientation August 23-26, 2010
  • Job begins August 27, 2010
