The Kirkland Metropolitan Market celebrated its grand opening on Thursday with a ribbon cutting by CEO Terry Halverson before a crowd of shoppers which literally circled around the building and into the alley. Anxious shoppers started forming a line two hours before the 9 a.m. ceremony.
It was all hands on deck as the doors of the 24 hour grocery store opened for the first time to greet customers with smiles, lots of cake, food samples and goodie bags for the first to shop at the new store.
The Metropolitan Market is located at Houghton Center, 10611 NE 68th, the site of the former Houghton Market. Several of the Houghton Market employees are now with the new store including Carol DePaul, who worked at the Houghton Market for 20 years.
