The City of Kirkland Public Works Department is launching an effort to work with streamside property owners to improve the health of Juanita Creek. To kick off this effort, the City is hosting a free stream care workshop on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Juanita Elementary School, Commons, 9635 NE 132nd Street. Residents who own property along or near Juanita Creek, or those interested in enhancing the stream, are encouraged to learn how to improve water quality and wildlife habitat in and near the creek. Topics that will be discussed include selecting the right native plants for your yard, how to get rid of ugly weeds, and how to work with the creek instead of against it. Juanita Elementary School students who have been studying the creek will showcase informational displays. Door prizes and a kids’ activity area will be provided. Workshop attendees will also have the opportunity to sign up for a free consultation with a stream care professional. Get the advice and tools you need to create a beautiful yard and to protect Juanita Creek! To register, contact Betsy Adams, Kirkland Public Works at 425-587-3858 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
