In a tip of the hat to Topeka, Kansas, which changed the name of their city to "Google, Kansas" for the month of March in an effort to catch Google's attention to their bid to become a member of Google's new "Fiber for Communities" program, Google has changed it's homepage to read, "Topeka." Google is well-known for their April Fool's Day hoaxes they make each April 1st.
Early last month the mayor of Topeka, Kansas stunned the world by announcing that his city was changing its name to Google. We’ve been wondering ever since how best to honor that moving gesture. The City of Kirkland is also interested in becoming a part of the Google Fiber for Communities program, however, in a somewhat more restrained fashion.
