Kirkland Fire investigates house fire fatality; Cause of fire unknown

At approximately 7:30 a.m. on Friday, February 19, 2016, multiple units from the Kirkland Fire Department responded to a report of smoke from a residence in the 8600 block of N.E. 124th Street.  Upon arrival, fire crews noted heavy smoke coming from the structure and were notified by neighbors that the residence might be occupied.  KFD attempted to attack the fire through the front door.  As crews were attempting to make entry on the first floor for search and rescue purposes, several glass windows above the entry broke due to intense heat and fell on and around firefighters.  Additional crews placed ladders on the exterior and made entry to the second floor.  During this search of the second floor, a single, deceased victim was found. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Kirkland Fire Investigators and the identification of the occupant will be released by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office. The structure is a complete loss. Additional support was received from the Northshore Fire Department, Woodinville Fire and Life Safety Department and the Kirkland Police Department.
