EvergreenHealth is pleased to announce the recent election of a new president and vice president of its Medical Staff, which oversees all aspects of high-quality patient care at EvergreenHealth and in the community.
Robert E. Geise, MD, CWS, an infectious disease specialist at EvergreenHealth Infectious Disease Care, will serve as Medical Staff President, and pediatric hospitalist James O’Callaghan, MD assumes the role of Medical Staff Vice President. Scott Burks, MD, who served as Medical Staff President from January 2014 through December 2015, will remain in a leadership role as Medical Staff Immediate Past President.
“As the liaisons between the Medical Staff, leadership and our Board of Commissioners, we are privileged to draw on the experience and respect among fellow physicians that Drs. Geise and O’Callaghan bring to their office,” said Jeff Tomlin, MD, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at EvergreenHealth. “We also extend our gratitude to Dr. Burks as the immediate past president for his continued service and leadership that is reflected in the high-quality health care and experience we provide the residents of our community.”
Dr. Geise most recently spent two years as the Medical Staff Vice President during which he also provided leadership to the Performance Excellence Committee and the Quality/Peer Review Committee. In addition to his infectious disease and travel medicine practice, Dr. Geise is the medical director of EvergreenHealth Wound Care. He is a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia, performed both his internship and residency at George Washington University Medical Center and completed his fellowship training in allergy/infectious disease at the University of Washington where he holds an academic appointment as a Clinical Associate Professor.
Dr. O’Callaghan is the lead pediatric hospitalist at EvergreenHealth as part of the Seattle Children’s Regional Hospitalist program. He has provided oversight as the Medical Staff’s Section Chief of Pediatrics since 2007 and holds a position as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Dr. O’Callaghan is a graduate of the Boston University School of Medicine and performed his residency at University Hospital Case Medical Center in Cleveland.
A majority vote by active EvergreenHealth Medical Staff members is required to elect all Medical Staff officers who serve a two-year term. Dr. Geise is the 37th Medical Staff president in EvergreenHealth’s 44-year history serving the community.
