Hikers find body in woods on July 22

 A reader requested information from Kirkland Views regarding the discovery of a body in the woods in the Kingsgate neighborhood and we contacted the city. Within an hour, KPD responded with the following:

The afternoon of July 22nd Kirkland Police responded to the 13300 BLK of NE 138th Pl regarding a citizen report of a possible body off a trail in a ravine adjacent to that location. Two residents of the area who had been hiking in the vicinity noticed a strong foul order and looked off the trail where they observed what appeared to be a body. They called 9-1-1 and led officers to the scene. Investigation at the scene by Kirkland PD Officers and Detectives revealed the decedent was a 33 year old male. Located in the vicinity was a suitcase, other personal affects and a wallet with identification. Through identification at the scene the subjects family was located and it was determined that he suffered from diagnosed metal health issues and had a history of drug abuse. It was determined the subject lived a transient lifestyle and reportedly frequented the woods in the area. King County Medical Examiners Officer responded to the scene and recovered the body which appeared to have been there for approximately two weeks.  There was no immediate sign of foul play located at the scene. Cause of death is pending toxicology results.
