Lake Washington teachers will stage a one-day walk-out on May 6, with a "It's Time To March" rally in Kirkland from 11 am to 4 pm. Participants are to walk from Heritage Park, 111 Waverly Way to Marina Park, 25 Lakeshore Plaza along Market Street to culminate in a rally at Marina Park. Late week, Superintendent Traci Pierce sent an email to district families advising that schools will be closed Wednesday and a make-up day will be added to the end of the school year.
The City of Kirkland issued the special event permit to the Lake Washington Education Association.
The teacher's walk out is illegal according to former WA Attorney General, Rob McKenna (www.smartergovernmentwa.org).
