This unedited photo of the sun setting over Lake Washington was taken last night. The brilliant colors filled the sky with a seemingly unreal intensity. The canvas filled the horizon. Winter sunsets like this are breathtaking and never grow old, even to a lifelong resident of the Great Pacific Northwest like me.
This time of year it is always a good practice to look west at sunset to catch a glimpse. One never knows what one will find but if you're lucky, it could be the best show money can't buy.
Weather permitting, the fun starts again tonight at sunset (5:35 pm) and amps up to full power within ten minutes. When the cloud cover is just right, it is the best show on Earth.
Bring your own popcorn.
