Could smart streets, easier parking be a part of our future?

Imagine a future where streets collect solar power and control embedded traffic signals. You are driving along, looking for a parking space and the system sends you a notification alerting you to an open parking spot under the shady tree just ahead. This is not as far fetched or futuristic as some may think.

I hope that the decisions we make today do not limit our future options. Could you see this sort of technology helping transportation in Kirkland? I sure can.
