Christmas Ships and Tree Lighting launch the Holiday Season in Kirkland

With freezing temperatures and warm hearts, Kirklanders gathered in Marina Park Sunday evening to witness the annual lighting of the Christmas Tree and to hear Christmas carols from the Argosy Christmas ships in Moss Bay. Many gathered around a large bonfire on the beach to keep warm. The tree, shiny and new this year, is standing in a new location: on the grass in Marina Park. Previous tree locations have included Lake Street South, the parking lot at Lake and Central and on the lift station next to The Slip near Marina Park.

The Seahawks victory over the Pittsburg Steelers helped boost the spirits of the crowd as well. Showing the game on a large TV was an added bonus. Kids were treated to sledding with the delivery of snow for a sled run, this year located near the boat launch.

Winterfest was presented by the Kirkland Downtown Association.
