LETTER | I See No Compelling Reason For Transit On The CKC

Dear Editor,

I was deeply dismayed to learn recently that the Kirkland City Council is proposing bus rapid transit on the Cross Kirkland Corridor. Yes, Kirkland needs more transit, but I see no compelling reason to put it on the CKC.

The 405 master plan adopted by all Eastside cities specifies bus rapid transit on 405. A 405 option would be cheaper, within range of just as many people, and could more easily connect people to jobs and shopping on both sides of 405. The Council is moving quickly to make a decision before December 13 to ask Sound Transit to include CKC buses on a ballot package
next year.

If anyone is concerned about buses on the CKC, I urge them to attend the Kirkland City Council meeting at 7 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 17 (wear green!). They can also write letters to the council, and attend the information open house on Thursday, Nov. 19, at 7 pm at the Kirkland
Performance Center. If we don’t speak out now, those of us who like to walk and ride the CKC could soon be sharing it with a bus every 2 to 3 minutes.

Sincerely,

Karen Story
