Kirkland CERT Classes to start in February

Kirkland CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is now accepting registration for the spring 2015 class. This 8 week course will start Wednesday, February 25th and be held the following 7 Wednesdays (no class April 8th) from 6 to 9 pm.  There is a required final simulation drill on April 25th. Training will be held at the Kirkland Justice Center in Totem Lake.

The CERT program educates residents in disaster preparedness and trains them in basic disaster response skills such as fire suppression, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help.

Cost for the 8 week course is $35 for Kirkland residents and $50 for non-residents. Participants will receive a learning manual, hardhat, vest, backpack and emergency supplies. The program is sponsored by the City of Kirkland and Greater Kirkland Citizen Corps Council.
