LW Softball Wins 2A State Tournament; Basevall Team Finishes Second

The Lake Washington High School softball team won the 2A state tournament Saturday and the school's baseball team wound up finishing second in state.

LW freshman pitcher Tori Bivens didn't allow a base hit until the seventh inning in the 4-0 victory over Othello, according to The Seattle Times. That two-out single was Othello's only baserunner of the afternoon. Bivens struck out 12 batters.

The Kang softball team won four games at the state tournament in Selah to capture the title.

A few miles downriver in Yakima, the Kang baseball team lost 2-1 to Ellensburg. LW had defeated Tumwater 10-1 on Saturday to advance to the final game.

Ellensburg's Junior Ledgard hit a two-round homer in the fourth inning and pitched a complete-game four-hitter to beat the Kangs, according to The Yakima Herald-Republic.

Lake Washington will move from the 2A classification back to 3A next year. Classifications are determined by enrollment figures.
