SWAT Team Uses Totem Lake Building for Training

When two small buildings in Totem Lake were scheduled for demolition later this week, the Bellevue SWAT team took the opportunity to use them for a training exercise on Monday. The two buildings, located on Slater Ave., will be demolished to make way for a new Hyundai of Kirkland service department.

During part of the training session, the SWAT team entered one of the empty buildings by breaching a doorway. They then tossed in what looked to be a stun grenade and followed through with guns drawn two K-9s in tow. It was just like in the movies, but this training is for real and without the dramatic musical score.

It is reassuring to know we are so well served by the professional police officers we have on the Eastside. We thank all of those who serve.

The SWAT team will return to the property for additional training again today at noon and the public are welcome.

Thank you to Jim Walen, owner of Hyundai of Kirkland, for sending these photos and a short video showing the SWAT team in action.
