Local Mayors proclaim September 26-October 24 as
“Eastside Month of Concern for the Hungry”Expanding on the annual “Mayor’s Day of Concern for the Hungry” campaign sponsored by the Emergency Feeding Program of Seattle & King County, the Mayors of several East King County cities will soon proclaim September 26 through October 24 as the “Eastside Month of Concern for the Hungry.” The formal proclamations officially launch the “Share What You Can” campaign to benefit those served by local food banks and feeding programs. The emphasis is to fill food bank shelves with non-perishable food items as the school season and autumn begins.

On Sunday morning at 7:30, the first wave of over 190 swimmers left the shores of Matthews Beach Park and swam across Lake Washington toward O.O. Denny Park just north of Kirkland. The event was the 5th Annual Cross Lake Washington Park to Park Swim, benefitting Children’s Hospital. This open water swim was for strong and experienced swimmers who had trained specifically for this purpose.

Downtown Kirkland retailer’s annual giving helps those in need
Each year, Simplicity Decor chooses a charity to support as a part of their Annual Giving Project. Hopelink was selected as the recipient of the project in 2008.

We just received an urgent request for more donations for the gift rooms throughout our six service centers. This year the number of families asking for help to provide gifts for their children is 25% higher than last year. We anticipate that parents and grandparents of than more 6500 children will be “shopping” for their gifts through Hopelink gift rooms this year.
