A Great Day at Juanita Bay Park

By Jeff Heinz I have a big huge “thank you” to the Juanita Bay Park Volunteer Rangers! I for one visit the Juanita Bay Park on a regular basis. I feel very fortunate to have such an amazing place available so close to home. On Sunday, my wife and I went to the free tour at the Juanita Bay Park, that is guided by Volunteer Rangers. Die Hard “Plungers” Ring in the New Year at Kirkland’s unofficial Polar Bear Plunge

By Jeff Heinz The City of Kirkland may have canceled the New Years Day Polar Plunge at Marina Park, but that did not stop some from taking the dip. This was the first of these that I have witnessed and I gotta say it looked like lots of fun. I am officially committing to a “maybe” for next year! I have never heard of a, “Fourth of July Plunge”, but it sounds like a wonderfully warm way to... [Read more]

Giving Thanks in Kirkland

By Jeff Heinz The day after Thanksgiving started  the same as most mornings. Large soy vanilla latte, from UCL in Juanita (MMmmm), in one hand, and my camera in the other. If you know me, this does not sound unusual. In fact you may ask, “Dude, what’s wrong?” if you ever see me without my camera.  “Why does this guy from Norkirk always have his camera with him?” you may ask, if you don’t... [Read more]

Juanita Tourists

By Jeff Heinz On my way to the Turkey Trot on Sunday, I had to pull over and let this sink in a little. Are those ducks standing under the awning, in front of the Barber Shop, to stay out of the rain? I watched the couple for several minutes as it continued to rain. The only reasonable explanation for this……. Those ducks are not from around here! Yep….. Tourists! Read More →

Creative parking in Totem Lake

It seems that parking is so scarce in parts of Totem Lake that people have resorted to parking along side of the railroad tracks in what appears to be the rail right of way.  These photos show cars parked along the unused BNSF railroad tracks north of NE 124th next to the Dodge Chrysler Jeep dealership. As the rainy season comes, it will be interesting to see if these “free” parking spaces... [Read more]
