Grant Enloe, a graduate student at Northwest University’s, International Care and Community Development program, promotes the power community and environmental awareness by highlighting the importance of supporting, purchasing and eating local food at the Kirkland Wednesday Market.
Grant created a short film about Kirkland’s farmers market for an environmental justice class he’s currently taking at Northwest. The assignment was to inform the public about some aspect of environmental justice. Grant thought the perfect place to show how environmental sustainability is possible was to showcase the local farmers market. Supporting local artist and vendors can assist in a number of environmental causes in combination with promoting healthy eating solutions and community interaction. His idea was to interview a handful of local vendors, artist and community members at the Kirkland Wednesday Market and display the results for the community to see. Grant says, “Kirkland is a community where these kind of issues can be promoted and embraced in grass roots form in order to make a sustainable difference in the way we live. The farmers market has a huge potential to make a positive impact in our local and global environment, along with our personal health and happiness.”
Environmental Justice is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies. EPA has this goal for all communities and persons across this Nation. It will be achieved when everyone enjoys the same degree of protection from environmental and health hazards and equal access to the decision-making process to have a healthy environment in which to live, learn, and work.

Grant also completed his undergraduate studies at Northwest and has lived in Kirkland for 6 years. He currently works as a marketing manager for Pro Athletes Outreach in Issaquah and hopes to become a social entrepreneur in the future and contribute to community development.
The mission of the Kirkland Wednesday Market (KWM) is to facilitate a weekly event, May through October, providing an opportunity for the local WA farmers, artists, and vendors to sell their goods, in addition to fostering strong community between business, citizen and neighborhoods in downtown Kirkland. The KWM will hold various events throughout the season to encourage vendor and community participation
