Amy Walen announces her intention to run for Tom Hodgson’s seat on the Council, requiring a primary on August 18th – UPDATE: Doreen Marchioni files for same seat

UPDATED: Former Redmond mayor, Doreen Marchione, has filed to run for Kirkland City Council Position #7, bringing the total number of candidates running in the primary to four. In a comment made on the Kirkland Views Facebook post referring to this article, Marchione states, “I filed for this position this morning.” See Doreen Marchione runs for Tom Hodgson’s seat on Kirkland City Council.

This morning in an interview with Kirkland Views, candidate Amy Walen announced she has filed to run for Kirkland City Council Position #7. This decision sets in motion a primary runoff between the three candidates (and any others who may still announce) to be held August 18th between candidate Amy Walen, candidate John Smiley and incumbent Tom Hodgson.

In 2005, Councilmember Tom Hodgson ran unopposed for his seat. He now seeks a second term, however, this time around, he will face challengers in both a primary and the general election.

Kirkland Views is the place for election news. Period.

Next week, Kirkland Views will launch an online Elections Forum covering every aspect of the primary and general elections providing news, commentary and of course, community discussion of the issues. Watch these pages next week when we will open the forum to you, the citizens of Kirkland, to ask the candidates your questions.

    Hi Rob,
Looks like you’ve been busy! Just wanted to let you know that a “Primary” is not a done deal at this point since candidates can still change their filing papers for the election until 5 p.m. this Friday. Marchione entering the race may complicate things and push some of the other candidates into recalculating the odds.
Still, it’s certainly a good guess.
    Fun, isn’t it?

      Hi Kendall,
Oh yes, we are well aware that the status of the race as of today may very well change, and in fact, I think it will. Rest assured that if it does, I’ll be there to post any new news about it. This will indeed be an interesting summer.

This is crazy. We now have four candidates for the same position and the other three positions are running un-opposed. We need to change the guard on the council. Candidates, let’s spread out and make so no one is running un-opposed. We need choice.

      Hi Marv,
I agree that a choice of one is no choice at all. I suspect we may see some rearranging in this game of musical chairs we are witnessing. Friday is the deadline so stay tuned!
